Thanks to the glorious service of the Atlanta center :mad: I missed the I-485 bus by 7 days( Labor cleared on Aug end ). Many people with later PD's got cleared from the Chicago PERM center . Now I just watch as all members get their EAD's and AP's while I wait with nothing but hope and watch legislation after legislation fail in the senate and house , and the letters flying all over the place .
I remember my past by reading your sad story. Though I had different cause for my tragedy. In Year 2000 November my then employer filed RIR labor and I got approval in January 12th 2001 and Same day HR filed my I-140. On January 22nd during companywide mass lay off I was slashed.. Again go through one more lay off in year 2002 with different employer and still waiting for GC(After filing 4th application in year 2003, Rotting in PBEC for almost 4 years)... Best Luck to you.

I would recommend to shop around more. There are some banks who ask quetions such as visa status and other documentation and then there are some which don't. In my case; Citibank quoted for 0.5 additional rate due to my visa status but ING didn't.

This is not true. I-485 will never be rejected based on that. However, you might need to show you have strong ties with your home country if you ask for an H1-B at the consulate abroad.
One's I-485 can be filed only for visas with dual intent status. For instance, an F visa or a B2 visa person (currently not dual intent visas) cannot apply for I-485. This was the basis on which I made that statement. Everyone is free to interpret differently. Again, I am not an attorney and I might be wrong.

Cases are being pre-adjucated, So there are RFEs and other inquiries...After this, they will wait for visa number in PD Queue....which is a good thing...This assures there will be no wastage this year....
Anycase, it looks like there will be significant forward movement...

is there any way, any way in this whole freakin process, that we can get some sort of explanation for eb3-I first hand from DOS or USCIS? i mean there needs to be some justification for the acts? i know there are laws to interpret these dates, but how do we know that those laws are interpreted correctly by DOS or USCIS? though i am in eb3-I , jan 2003, i personally know atleast 3 folks who are in 2002 - eb3-I. Can we get some sort of guidance here.
i will ask the iv folks who keep in touch with USCIS if they know anything. AFAIK though, USCIS has come out with no answers other than quoting the non availability of adequate visa numbers. if there is any more info i will let you know...

1. Sen. Cornyn yesterday offered the bridge amendment.
SA 2339. Mr. CORNYN (for himself and Mr. Enzi, Mr. Gregg, Mr. Smith, Mr. Sununu, Mr. Coleman, and Mr. Voinovich) submitted an amendment intended to be proposed to amendment SA 2327 proposed by Mr. Kennedy to the bill H.R. 2669.
The amendment was ruled out of order by the Chair of the Committee, after a Motion by Sen. Durbin (D-IL) and a vote more-or-less on party lines. This is hopefully just a procedural slowdown. HLG is aware that alternative procedural options are still being considered.
The amendment also called for a one-time increase in H1 visas, which seemed to be the reason for the amendment’s defeat.
What you can do.
If anyone lives in these Senators' jurisdictions, please call their offices and thank them for sponsoring the amendment, and encourage them to keep pushing for this amendment.

Just did some stats on , did only for texas service center
It appears that Notice Date is immaterial. As long as your PD is current.
So, you dont need to worry, if your notice date is Oct 2007 and TX processing date still shows July 17th. They are approving the cases as long as your PD is current in PD order which makes sense.
I see a case with Nov 12 2007 ND and PD of dec 2002 is approved.

One of my friend got receipt for I-140 and I-1485, He send on July 30th to Nebraska Service center. I have send on the 2nd July still waiting.

What if out of all 10000 , 9999 don't have priority date current.Do you think they will still not look at the 1 in the pile which has a current PD.They will look at it , Even if it is number 10000 in the list.Actually there will be no pile because 9999 people won't even be in contention.
Why do you think labour substitution was so HOT?Just because by getting an earlier PD , you were going to steam roll everybody who filed before you , just because you got an earlier PD..

Fedup is an understatement. Zero accountability. After moving dates to 2006 now dates go back to 2003????????? Last year it started with date being at Apr 2004 and this year starts with Apr 2003????? This is beyond ridiculous!!!aaaaaaarrrghhhhhhhhhh.
P.S Its wrong to tell that guys with MS are getting their GC's before others. I have one and so do many others I know. There is no order guys...........

People receive emails about info. posted on state chapters. I have asked other chapter leads to post on their chapter boards as well. I am not sure if we have a consolidated, updated and verified list of all the members across all the state chapters to be able to send an email at this time.

2009 is VERY OPTIMISTIC. Why would a new administration take up "touchy" issue like immigration in its 1st year (2009)? Least we can expect is 2010 IF NOTHING HAPPENS BY MID NOVEMBER - Congress goes to recess for the year.The window of opportunity is short!

More than 4 years ago when I started the process I really was looking forward to getting a GC and eventually citizenship. But a lot has changed in the last 4 years. GC process has become much harder (after 4 years I am yet to file for 140 and 485). At the same time the economy back home is booming. So the financial incentive to go thru the long process is really going down by the day.
More than the financial factor, I have gradually started realizing that no matter how many friends I make here its never the same as having a large family network that provides for social stability for each family. Also, I have started observing aging indian couples in US who came in 60's and 70's. They look pretty lonely and sad. I guess the question I am asking myself today is, is finanical success today worth the social loss I will face once I retire?
PS: Does anyone know how to turn a thread into a poll?
When my labor approval came, I was very happy and even bought a house. But then retrogression happened. Now I am really tired of it, besides I only can watch my nephews nieces growing through webcam only. My brother sisters are getting older, and I feel I am drifting away from them because I hardly get much time to spend with them even when I go to India. So GC or no GC, I am going back.
Now I am here for 2 reasons, my wife is studying, I am stuck with a house. My wife's studies are almost over. So as soon as I can break even on my house, I will go back. Period.
My wife couldn't get an internship this year due to not having GC. She has converted to F1 after waiting for a long time, and hopefully this year will get an H1. So GC has no real value for me now. Only value GC has for me is that I can live more independently switch employers, experiment with startup ideas etc. while I am here.
